sensitive spaces for sensitive people

About

Hello there. My name is Micki, and, this is Hushed, my blog on how to create non-toxic, quiet, calm, beautiful sensitive spaces and lives that nourish rather than overwhelm us.

I’m very sensitive to smells, light, noise, chemicals and food and am probably an HSP – highly sensitive person – at least according to Dr. Elaine Aron’s book and this definition:

You have a heightened awareness of subtleties in your environment, whether it’s sight, sound, touch, taste, or smell.

The Highly Sensitive Person.

I plan to chat about anything that could quieten the noise in life, really, but I will start by mainly focusing on interiors, on creating safe, sensitive spaces and let it evolve from there.

My interior design ethos is tonal and textured with a pop of colour in every room that you can focus on to lower anxiety – a technique I used to great effect myself when I had PTSD. I call it my happy colour. Sinking into it helps us to retrain the brain to think of something happy when we are ruminating on a negative or feeling bad. It’s a neurological technique, and it works.

I overlay that base with plenty of texture, comfort and beauty, focusing on natural, non-toxic stuff that doesn’t assault our senses with strong smells, sharp edges, blinding lights or irritating noise. None of that for us, thank you.

Aaah, that feels better already…

You can find me online in the links below and can even buy me a coffee here if you feel moved to – thank you. Enjoy,

Micki x
